When is an escort vehicle needed?
When the dimensions or weight of a load exceed the normal limits: long, wide or tall loads, heavy machinery, modular buildings, boats, industrial equipment and other large goods.
The escort vehicle warns other road users, keeps a safe space around the load and helps it through narrow sections, junctions and roundabouts.
Special permit and escort vehicle
An oversize or heavy load needs a special permit. On national roads, the Transport Administration (Transpordiamet) issues it, and you apply in its e-service. On city streets, the city issues the permit. On municipal roads, the rural municipality does, and on a private road, the road owner. Whether you need an escort vehicle depends on the dimensions and weight of the load and the route. What to include in your enquiry
Give the length, width, height and weight of the load, the origin and destination, and your preferred travel time. If you already have a special permit, attach it, because it sets out the transport conditions. The price depends mainly on the route length, the number of escort vehicles and traffic controllers, and the travel time, for example whether the transport takes place at night. If you know of any pinch points on the route, such as low bridges or narrow junctions, list them too.

Can I order traffic controllers together with an escort vehicle?
Yes. At junctions, roundabouts and pinch points, traffic controllers stop or direct traffic so the load can pass safely. We plan the number of controllers based on the route. If needed, we also install temporary signs. In your enquiry, give the route and the load dimensions.
How far in advance should I book an escort vehicle?
