TMA (truck-mounted attenuator)

We rent out a vehicle with an attenuator, together with a driver. The TMA stands behind the work zone and protects people working on the road from rear-end collisions.

What it includes

Vehicle, driver and an agreed plan

Vehicle with driver

We always rent out the TMA with a driver. The attenuator absorbs the impact energy and protects workers from traffic.

The driver knows the road

Our drivers know the specifics of both city streets and highways, and work to the agreed work plan.

Together with other traffic management

If needed, we add signs, a traffic management plan and approvals to the TMA.

When is a TMA needed?

When people work right next to moving traffic and ordinary markings are not enough. For example, highway maintenance and road marking, mowing, surface repairs, temporary closures on higher-speed roads and securing accident sites.

The higher the speed and traffic volume, the more important physical protection becomes. A TMA is required for many works on main highways.

What to describe in your enquiry

To plan a TMA, we need to know the road number or address, the speed limit, the work dates and whether the work is static or mobile. For mobile work, the TMA follows the work crew. For static work, it stands behind the work zone. If the work takes place at several locations or over several consecutive days, tell us that too. This lets us plan the vehicle and driver and add signs if needed.

What a TMA costs

The price depends mainly on how long the work lasts, how far away the site is and the working hours, for example whether the work is done during the day, at night or at weekends. It also depends on whether you need a traffic management plan, approval, signs or a trailer-mounted warning barrier in addition to the TMA. For short jobs, consider whether several jobs can be scheduled on the same day. We give an exact quote based on the road and work details.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a TMA?

A TMA (truck-mounted attenuator) is an impact attenuator fitted to a vehicle. It absorbs the energy of a collision and protects people on the work site if a vehicle drives into it.

Can I rent a TMA without a driver?

No. We always rent out the TMA with a driver.

How quickly can I order a TMA?

We reply within a couple of hours. The vehicle can often be on site at short notice.

When is a TMA mandatory?

The requirement comes from the road owner and the approved traffic management plan. On national roads, a TMA is often required on higher-speed roads where people work close to moving traffic. If you are not sure whether your site needs a TMA, send us the road and work details and we will check.

Is a TMA suitable for mobile work?

Yes. For mobile work, such as mowing, road marking or road maintenance, the TMA follows the work crew and moves along with the work. For static work, the vehicle stands behind the work zone. In both cases, the driver follows the agreed work plan.

Can I order a TMA for a city street?

Yes. In cities, a TMA is used, for example, on busy streets where workers are close to the traffic lanes. Whether a TMA is needed depends on the speed, the traffic volume and the approved plan. If you are not sure, send us the street name and a description of the work, and we will advise you.

Can I order signs and a traffic management plan together with a TMA?

Yes. If the work site needs signs, a trailer-mounted warning barrier or traffic controllers in addition to the TMA, we put the solution together in one place. We prepare the traffic management plan, get it approved by the road owner and install the equipment. This way, you do not need separate agreements with several companies.
